Authentic Learning

Welcome back students, staff, and families for the start of another great school year!  September is one of our favorite times of the year.  It marks the beginning of a fresh academic journey for our students and staff.  It is a time for new opportunities for learning and growth.

Fall sports and activities are already in full swing. From soccer or football games under the lights, volleyball games packing the gym, and to our cross-country runners on the trails, our student-athletes are working hard to represent our school and community. We encourage all community members to come out and support our teams this fall and beyond.  New this year, all current or former military get in free to all regular sporting events with an ID; WIAA playoff games are excluded. (Thank you for your service!)

As students step back into their classrooms, it’s the perfect moment to embrace new routines and solidify positive habits. Establishing a consistent study schedule, organizing materials, and setting personal goals are important habits that set the tone for a successful year.  These habits are directly connected to our new Profile of a Learner, which emphasizes not just academic excellence but also the development of critical thinking, communication, character, citizenship, and collaboration. Our educational programs are designed to cultivate these essential attributes, ensuring that students are well-prepared for future challenges and opportunities. We are excited for the ongoing conversation of how our Falcon learners will demonstrate all of these attributes.

One of our goals this year is to see an increase in authentic learning opportunities for our students K-12.  Authentic learning involves making real-world connections and creating public displays of learning. This approach involves engaging students in projects that have tangible impacts and encourages them to present their work to a larger community audience. By integrating authentic experiences into the curriculum, our goal is to make learning more meaningful and relevant, enhancing students’ motivation and understanding.  Please be on the look out for how to be a part of these displays of learning.

Please reach out if you need anything and thanks for all of your support.  We appreciate all of the family and community partnerships.  It is just one of the things that makes Tomorrow River School District such a special place. Welcome back, it is going to be a great year!
