Community Spirit–November 2023

Future Ready
This fall, the Board of Education updated our Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan. There were
some great conversations around outcomes for students and our commitment to students,
families and the community. As part of that conversation, we updated the College and Career
Ready goal (or pillar) of our strategic plan to Future Ready.
Why the change and what does Future Ready mean? The purpose of that change was to
communicate our commitment to ensuring that all of our students are ready for high academic
achievement and still offer a true comprehensive school experience. We value having a variety
of electives, offerings, and opportunities for our students. We want our students prepared for all potential pathways: university, technical college, apprenticeships/world of work, or military.
Future readiness is a proactive approach to prepare our students for the challenges and
opportunities that lie ahead. It's about equipping our students with the skills, knowledge, and adaptability necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing world. A key element of future readiness is embracing continuous learning. With the acceleration of technology and the shifting job market, the ability to acquire new skills and knowledge is absolutely essential.
Moreover, future readiness involves fostering innovation and creativity. As automation and
artificial intelligence become more prevalent, creativity and critical thinking will become highly
sought-after skills. Being able to think outside the box and solve complex problems will be
crucial for our students and a skill we want within all our staff members as well.
Ultimately, future readiness is not just about preparing for the challenges of tomorrow, but also
about embracing the potential for positive change. Future ready schools are places where
dynamic teaching and learning is happening, and all students are supported to succeed.
The Tomorrow River School District will work with community partners to assure that students
have a fully developed plan for post high school success, whether that be pursuing a college
degree or preparing for other career work opportunities.
