What Skills Do We Want in a TRSD Graduate?

The fall is one of my absolute favorite times of the year.  It is so exciting to have students and
staff back in the buildings after the summer break.  The positive energy of new classrooms, as
well as fall sports and activities, is a great way to start the year.

As we get established into our new school year, and as I settle into my role in TRSD, it is a great time to talk about our vision for the future in Tomorrow River Schools.  This fall, our Board of Education has updated our Mission and Vision statements, as well as updated our Strategic Plan for the year.  There were some great collaborative conversations and planning that went into writing and updating these documents.

The next part of our conversation is, “how do we make these documents come alive in all of our classrooms” so that they are not just a piece of paper on the wall.  Deeper into that conversation is the question, what skills do we want all of our students to have in Tomorrow River?  That is the purpose of completing a Graduate Profile.

Graduate Profiles are becoming increasingly popular with school districts as a way for schools (and communities) to share their instructional vision and to articulate the outcomes they want for all students.  Sometimes they are referred to as a Learner Profile, a Graduate's Journey, or Portrait of a Learner/Graduate, with the name and characteristics being finalized by the community team.  Overall, Graduate Profiles should be inspirational, motivational, and aspirational.

Over the course of this school year, the District will be working to create a Graduate Profile with the goal of finalizing the profile by the summer of 2024.  We will have a team of staff members, parents, students, and business partners working together to capture what the Tomorrow River community sees as the most important characteristics and skill sets we want our students to have to be future ready.

Please keep an eye out for an invitation to apply to be on the Graduate Profile creation team, as
well as for future surveys, that will go out to help our team with community ideas and feedback.
Tomorrow River School District is an amazing place and truly a destination school district in the
area and our goal is to be one of best school districts in the entire state.
